Curcumin is a yellow polyphenolic compound extracted from turmeric, the rhizome of Curcuma longa, a plant in the ginger family. It also includes demethoxycurcumin (also called curcumin II) and bisdemethoxycurcumin (also called curcumin III), which occur together in turmeric and turmeric extracts.
